Public funding from the Crown Estate and potentially LEADER will be supplemented by sponsorship from Shetland's seafood and agriculture sectors, plus Shetland Food and Drink's own resources, in designing and manufacturing a multi-purpose Taste of Shetland trailer. This towable, engineless vehicle will be ready for use by summer 2021 and will be designed to fit on inter-island ferries and the ferry to Orkney and Aberdeen.
Shetland Food and Drink secures Crown Estate funding for a Taste of Shetland trailer
Local produce will soon take to the road thanks to a £17,880 grant from the Shetland Crown Estate fund.
The trailer will be equipped for preparing, cooking and sharing local produce, and it will be available for hire by SFAD member businesses and community groups. It can be used as an event, demonstration, retail, educational and pop-up catering facility, and will assist with Covid-19 recovery by building awareness of Shetland food and drink in the isles and beyond.
Shetland Food and Drink manager, Claire White, said: "We're excited about this brand new Taste of Shetland asset. It feels like there's never been a better time to offer flexible Shetland food and drink experiences, and we're grateful to our financial supporters for bringing this idea to life."
