'Eggs'citing Times at Mirrie Dancers Chocolatier

March 22nd 2018 | by Shetland Food and Drink in News

Mirrie Dancers, one of our Full Members, update us on what's new for them this month.

As it is with most small businesses it’s an incredibly busy time of the year. Not only is Easter approaching, we are on the lead-up to potentially the busiest season to date for Cruise Ships in Shetland. Talking of which, here at  Mirrie Dancers  we have already signed up with European Cruises to put on peerie Chocolate Tours for our overseas visitors, something we are very excited about.

On top of all this, we are super-proud to announce that we have been shortlisted for the  Scottish SME Retail Business of the Year.  The awards will be held on 17 April this year in Glasgow and fingers crossed we’ll be returning to Shetland with trophy in hand! This of course is in no small thanks to an amazing team spread across both Shetland and Orkney but also the support, since our inception, from other local businesses and friends in and around the Islands. Here’s hoping it’s a successful evening. Please check it all out  here .

Over in Orkney we are now recruiting for more staff to help us see through the Cruise Ship season there. The numbers arriving look quite astounding on paper and we are sure when the last Ship leaves at the end of the season we will all be able to take a step back and look at an incredible few months.

In addition, we are proud to announce that we are working with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and the Curlew In Crisis Month. We are now making Chocolate Curlew Eggs, sold on  our website  in 125g bags with all proceeds going to the RSPB to help with the protection of this amazing species. The Chocolate is an origin cocoa, a 70% Tanzanie dark Chocolate and is completely Soy free. The initial batch order is already with the RSPB headquarters in Edinburgh and the individual sales on our website are already proving a peerie challenge to keep up with, a great problem to have. If you would like to play your part in helping this cause, and of course enjoying some fabulous chocolate in the process please make sure you  visit our website . You can learn more about the plight of the Curlew and read our story  here .

Back to all things chocolate and after a busy few months behind the scenes and creating some great new flavours - such as our Winter Warmers and Caramelised Banana Pralines - we are all about eggs! Currently being packaged and into our stores we have a fantastic range, from last year’s hit, the Winnie The Pooh Honeycomb Egg to what we’ve called our “Tiger Egg” with Dark Chocolate "stripes” and backed with our homemade caramelised white chocolate. Also we have Graffiti Easter Bunnies and Multi-coloured Unicorn Eggs that we think are going to fly out. On top of all these wonderful treats we have again teamed up with Living Lerwick. Everyone who enters the Lerwick Easter Egg Hunt can grab themselves a peerie Egg with Bunny Buttons inside in our Easter Giveaway. You can order our products by mail order, direct from  our website .

Finally, as if all that wasn’t enough then this year will see a huge change for Mirrie Dancers here in Lerwick with plans that will come all to apparent in the near future. Massively exciting times for sure so please do watch this space for a more interactive Chocolate Experience.

This just leaves us to say, we hope all our local businesses have a fantastic year in all your endeavours. Cheers!!
