Latvian Grey Peas with Onions & Bacon
Ingredients
- 250 grams Latvian Grey Peas
- 500 ml water
- 1 onion
- 2 thick slices of smoked bacon
- salt and pepper
- dill (optional)
Method
- Soak the grey peas in cold water for 12 hours.
- Rinse the peas and boil them in water for 40-50 minutes.
- Add a pinch of salt when the peas are nearly ready.
- While the peas are boiling, cut the bacon and onion into small cubes.
- Pan fry them until they are golden brown. Season well with black pepper at the end.
- Strain the peas and serve them in a bowl topped with the fried bacon and onion.
- Garnish with dill.
