J.K. Mailand’s farm is a family business in the fertile south mainland of Shetland. The whole family work hard to grow a wide range of vegetables, rear sheep and produce fresh local eggs. They sell their produce farm to fork through their Event Catering Trailer which is a familiar sight to most as you drive out the South Road in Lerwick. They have a permanent pitch in the Tesco’s car park and are also available for events around Shetland.

Buy a selection of hot and cold food and drinks from the trailer. All the meat products are made using their own or locally sourced meat, butchered and prepared by them to make their famed burgers, pies and hot rolls. You can also order premium quality meat packs to feed the whole family.

Their vegetables are available through the local shops and supermarkets but the most exciting recent development in their business is their new Veg. Box and meat pack delivery service. You can order a box packed with top quality produce that includes a selection of whatever is in season and have it delivered right to your door.

Family member, Kevin Obern, came up with this idea during the first Covid lockdown in 2020. He realised how many people were feeling vulnerable about going out to do their shopping and wanted to help. He says the idea has really taken off, not only are people delighted to have the delivery service but their new venture is a great way for people to be able to get their hands on locally grown fresh vegetables.

Kevin and his family are one of the only commercial growers of Shetland Black Tatties, a heritage variety of potatoes included in the Slow Food Movement’s Ark of Taste. They are looking to expand the range of vegetables available through their Veg. Box scheme after the overwhelming success it has met.
