Welcome to Pete’s Café & Takeaway, right in the heart of Lerwick — a small, family-run café where everything is made with care, from scratch, and with a big love for good, honest food.
Pete's opens from 8 am, ready to start your day properly with hearty full breakfasts, freshly made breakfast rolls, comforting homemade soups, and a tempting selection of homebakes. Whether you’re after something savoury or a well-earned sweet treat, everything you’ll find here is prepared in-house — no shortcuts, just proper cooking.
They’re proud to work with as many local producers as possible. Petes' rolls come from Sandwick Bakery, and they're the only café in town serving Uradale Farm Sassermaet, made from organic native Shetland kye. Throughout the week, you’ll also find much-loved local favourites on the menu — from homemade Cullen Skink (gf), served every Wednesday with smoked haddock from QA Fish, to traditional Reestit Mutton Soup (df, gf) on Fridays, made with locally raised lamb from Scalloway Meat Co.
There’s always a vegetarian or vegan soup available, and they share daily specials each morning on their Facebook page — worth a peek before you visit.
They do offer gluten-free and dairy-free options; however, because the kitchen is in a very old building with limited space, they cannot guarantee the absence of cross-contamination, as everything is prepared in the same oven and workspace.
To drink, they serve Illy coffee — roasted in Italy — alongside a lovely selection of Teapigs teas.
You’re always welcome to sit in, relax, and enjoy views across the harbour, or take everything away if you’re on the go.
What matters most to them is how you feel when you walk through the door — a warm welcome, friendly faces, and a place that feels easy to settle into.
Pete's is incredibly proud that this approach has been recognised with the Lerwick Town Centre Business Award for Hospitality Business of the Year 2026.
