Family-run hotel, incorporating the only two AA rosette restaurant in the Northern Isles. Dining room and bar offering seasonal menus, showcasing Shetland produce, with the emphasis on fish, shellfish and lamb.
The Scalloway Hotel is a multi-award winning business, sitting on the waterfront of Shetland's ancient capital, which has been at the forefront of fine dining in the Islands for the past ten years. Residents and non-residents can choose to eat in the dining room, where a full a la carte menu is offered, or in the more informal surroundings of the bar. Head chef George Fraser and his team create imaginative menus featuring Shetland's finest local produce, including scallops, mussels, crab, lobster and, of course, the world-renowned Shetland lamb. The hotel's wine list offers an eclectic mix of Old and New World, and the bar is stocked with hand-pumped local ale, as well as more than thirty artisan gins, and around sixty malt whiskies.
Accommodation is available in 23 simple, but stylish bedrooms, where the emphasis is again on local products, with Shetland tweed soft furnishings and Shetland wool carpets. Local artworks adorn the walls, and guests can enjoy other comforts including Egyptian cotton sheets, bathrobes, and refurbished bathrooms with powerful showers and underfloor heating. The hotel has also won recognition for the quality of its breakfasts, with guests offered a range of cooked options including local smoked haddock and smoked salmon, along with an extensive breakfast buffet - all available from 0530 for the early traveller.
