The Anderson family took on the Weisdale farm more than 80 years ago, later adding the Staneyhill farm to their holdings. The business has been handed down from generation to generation ever since. Today they source and finish top quality store cattle from all over Shetland, either through the local marts or directly from trusted local partners.
They also rear purebred native Shetland sheep. These are reared for the fine yarn Shetland is world famous for, and meat of outstanding quality and flavour. Native Shetland lamb is a product with Protected Designation of Origin status and is also registered with the Slow Food Movement’s Ark of Taste project.
A flock of Shetland Cheviot or Texel crosses are also kept, and bred with Suffolk rams to produce either commercial store lambs or finished lambs.
The family’s premium quality finished beef, lamb, and mutton are sold into the local market either direct, farm to fork, or through Anderson’s, a local craft butcher’s. Their store animals head to mainland Scotland to be finished in Aberdeenshire.
GB & AM Anderson are QMS certified and have been farming in harmony with nature for generations. You haven’t really tasted meat till you’ve tasted Shetland meat.
