Where to Eat

Here at Taste of Shetland, one of our most frequently asked questions is “where should I go to eat?” We decided to answer that question as thoroughly as we could, by providing this guide – which lists all the eateries in Shetland and shows you where to find them!

Here are our top tips on eating out in Shetland:

  • Always book your table in advance, especially in high season. Our most popular restaurants book up very quickly, particularly in Lerwick.
  • If you have special dietary requirements, don’t fear – most of our local eateries have great and varied menus that allow for this – but we do recommend you give them a call before your go, just to be sure.
  • Some businesses are in more than one catagorie because they offer more than one service.
  • Although none of our takeaways currently offer food delivery; many of our taxi companies are happy to collect and deliver your food for a reasonable fee.
  • Try the Seafood! Shetland’s waters produce over 80% of Scotland’s Mussels, 25% of Scotland’s Salmon, and 20% of Scotland’s Finfish – We also have our own Oysters. Check with your server where your fish came from, and in some venues they might even know the name of the boat that caught it!
  • Opening days and times vary significantly at different points in the season, and between different eateries. Always check before going, to avoid disappointment.
